A ground floor extension providing a new living area, remodelled kitchen and new outside eating area.

  Design solution

A new living room providing space for dining and sitting is contained in a new elegant single storey extension which is linked to a new outside sitting and eating area through a wide expanse of sliding glass maximising natural light. The existing kitchen was completely reconfigured to provide access from the existing house to the new extension.

The new extension is visually ‘disengaged’ from the existing house and a large panel of roof glazing incorporated to compensate for the loss of direct light to the revised kitchen.

Matching brickwork and timber cladding were used for the walls to key the new building to the existing whist still signalling the contemporary design of the extension. Natural zinc was chosen for the roof as it provides the opportunity for a very low pitch whilst retaining high quality and long service life.
