| The rear portion
of the ground floor was reorganised and extended to create a new
kitchen/breakfast room, a new family room and a new office.
In addition part of the old kitchen area was reconfigured to provide
a utility room and improve the circulation within the enlarged ground floor.
Although situated on the northern side of the existing house
the extension was stepped back towards the east and provided with
roof glazing to maximise morning and late afternoon sunshine.
The breakfast room and family room both open to the redesigned garden
via wide sliding folding glass doors.
A contemporary bolt connected oak frame was chosen to compliment
the arts and crafts style of the existing house whilst making sense
of the large expanses of glass in the new extension. A glazed canopy
over part of the external deck provides the opportunity to enjoy
the garden even when it’s raining.
